Here's a site I just found that makes a game out of learning to play by ear. Starts you out at the beginner level and has several games where you listen to notes and then try to figure out what note it is, then it has training for intervals and chords and rhythm, etc. I've been messing around with it for about an hour and so far, everything I've found is FREE. You do have to sign in to a free account but then you can play the games and see how easy or difficult it is for your ear to hear different notes, intervals, chords, etc. Much fun to mess around with.

NOTE: I've changed the URL so it will work - the first one I posted didn't work.

Enjoy

Thanks for the link.

A method I do to practice ear training is to sit in front of the boob tube, and when a commercial jingle plays, I try to approximate it on my instrument as much as possible.

Hmmm. That link isn't working for me.

Don't put a www. before it, just click on the link I posted -- it should take you right there.

Here's the link again and it's working for me.

trainer.thetamusic.com

Leave the /en off, I guess because this one works just fine the first one didn't work and I've changed it where it will.

Thanks for letting me know it didn't work so I could fix it.

Thanks Sherry -- It's a skill I need to develop, and this site looks like it will help. Thanks for sharing. And you might want to write Eric suggesting he find a place for this on the links page.
