An instrument that's not as annoying as the Flutophone, but is diatonic, is the tinwhistle.  The D whistle is the most versatile for trad Irish music.

I have a music room. In it I have a piano, a full set of drums,a couple of amps, a Tele, a mandocaster, a bass. A couple of mandolins in easy reach, a couple of guitars in easy reach,a dobro. All set up and ready to go. No banjo at the present time. Harmonicas and such laying around. There's a trumpet around here somewhere. I have had all sorts of instruments over the years - a flute, a violin, autoharp, a zither. Uke's an accordian and a dulcimer and a bunch of stuff that I probably don't remember. I have spent a little time with all of them. If a band happens to drop by, well,we're all set. I have acoustic guitars and mandolins stuffed in closets all over the house but I have finally arrived a the point where I realize I only need to of each an f holed mandolin a round holed mandolin a big guitar and a small guitar. What I want and don't have is a mandola and a mandocello. I gravitate to the mandolin and guitar or anything with strings but I think playing the other instruments only helps, some people think you should concentrate on only one or two. Might be true but I find working with the other instruments gives me different and broader insights into music that maybe I wouldn't get from only guitar and mandolin.

Hardly played anymore:

Steel string acoustic.  Too hard on me fingers

Mid Missouri mandolin.  My daughter stole it.  Won't give it back.

(And just now I read the question as "What instruments do you want to play?" not "What do you play?"  Oh well.  These are what I play.

My problem is I dont want to be a "Jack of all instruments but master of none" like in the past. I enjoy playing old time fretless banjo ...I used to want to learn fiddle, until I bought one LOL.
The mandolin was the instrument I excelled at the most bringing me the most enjoyment, success and reward. I am thinking now its best to stick with the one you play best and master it...

After 50 years of six-stringing and then adding mandolin last year, just got a tenor guitar and love it.  Now am eyeing banjo just for the heck of it.  Will have to see what happens next.

In my armamentum, the Fiddle is first and foremost. There's nothing anyone can say or do to convince me any other instrument can be as expressive and useful in so many styles. Secondarily and in descending order of presidence, there is the guitar (my first instrument) the Great Highland Pipes, the mandolin, the tenor banjo and the growling lows of the Bass guitar.

It would be great to play piano...but were I to take on an additional instrumenet, I would probably pick up the flute (a la Jethro Tull) again.

Just went from adding tenor banjo to getting a couple ukuleles. With the ukes have "cheated" a little by retuning them to GDAE. It's easier on the aging brain and fingers to just have one chord pattern set to remember.
