Hello, first post on the forum here. I am a banjo player but I like to dabble around with any stringed instrument. I wanted to get some opinions on what a good price would be for an Eastman MD615 F-style bought used with the usual minor nicks associated with a used instrument. Thanks for any and all help,

Opinions on used gear varies. My limited experience is that the instrument loses 20% out-the-door on first retail sale, and then goes further downhill from there based on condition, popularity, online reviews, etc.. Add into that the shipping cost - usually negotiable. How's that?

I had never heard of Eastman mandolins till the summer of 2005. I went to Toronto to look at a Gibson A model f hole mandolin that was on the Twelfth Fret website. When I got there I saw some Eastman mandolins on the wall and a repairman told me to try them before I committed to the Gibson. I took the Gibson, a couple of 605s and a 615 into the little room at the back of the store and played the same thing on all four mandolins. One of the 605s blew the other three away, and it was way less expensive than the 615 or the Gibson. I kinda liked the looks of the 615, and I had enough to buy it, but the one of the 605s sounded so much better that I had to have it. I still own it and it's a super mandolin. I've really lost the desire to own an F style mandolin.
