I personally feel that this mandolin is priced WAY too high. This is probably gonna be on Ebay for an incredibly long time.

No doubt that that mandolin is Jimmy Martin's. Jimmy Martin was "The King of Bluegrass" and the mandolin styling on his recordings was distinctly different than what Bill was doing. It's also an oval hole and it was purposely so producing a sound that Jimmy wanted,He could have had any mandolin and this was his choice. This mandolin also has already been through ebay and it appeared to sell for that price but the deal must have fallen through. It is a great sounding mandolin for sure but in not the best condition. An F-4 of that vintage is worth maybe 1/30th that price. It's a historical piece owned by one of the greatest and early founders of Bluegrass music. That's what the price reflects not it's true value. Jimmy Rodgers D45, Tony Rice's D28, Willie Nelson's "Trigger", Clapton's "Blackie" Monroe's Loar, are examples of instrument that might be valued far and away more that their actual value. The thing about this one is Jimmy Martin was not the mandolinist in the band--- but his guitar--The D-45 with his name inlaid into the fretboard where is that? That is worth some cash!

FYI Ben Venuti, Jimmie Rodgers guitar was NOT a D45,, in 1928 there was no D45, JR's guitar was a 000-45. Also, about Jimmy Martin's guitar,..-what you think was a D45, was most likely, -a D 28 with simulated 45 enhancements!
