I attended my first session last night with the guys from Lynher Valley Sessions here in Cornwall. It was certainly a lesson in just how much I don't know about playing! but I have to say that they all made me very welcome. It was quite daunting walking in as a first timer, but they immediately put me at my ease, and I felt no pressure to do anything I didn't want to. I had a great night, and am looking forward to the next one.
I have read some posts on various forums that may put first timers off, But based on my experience, I say go and try it out - you may end up with a group of first rate musicians, who are also decent people - just like I did!

I originally took up the mandolin in the mid 1980's, and returned to playing about 4 years ago after a 10 year lay-off while the children were small! I play mandolin in Triptych, a contemporary acoustic band, and guitar and mandolin in a local rock covers band called Cloud City Rebels.
