Born in Los Angeles , California, went to school in Long Beach , California, joined the Navy in 1958 retired from the Navy in 1980, got interested in music when I was a kid in Junior high school, played viloin in orchestra but gave it up for guitar in 1954 when I heard Jhonny Cash,s lead guitar Luther Perkins, I was smitten, I really never pursued learning much until I was in the Navy, that is when it sort of took off, got to meet a lot of fellows from all walks of life many styles of music but the one that most influenced me was earlier bluegrass in 1950,s and 60,s. I didnt put much into it except I used to buy old beater guitars in mid 60,s while aboard ship in the Philipines and used to fix them to play better, later on I did some major repairs on a GIbson guitar for a fellow that inspired me to get into repair and building. In 1994 I built my first F5 mandolin from instruction out of a Roger siminoff book , then a guitar and fix old violins, now it is just a hobby but I get several repairs a week. I recently went to Wickenburg Arizona at the Bluegrass festival and entered the Mandolin playing event and senior fiddle and guitar flat pick. I won second on the mandolin third on the senior fiddle, and I didnt place on the guitar flat pick, too nervous I made too many mistakes, but I had a good time. I have built several Dreadnought guitars a nd a few mandolins and one Mandola, my other past time is playing my fiddle with the AOTFA here in arizona, if not I am working in my Garden growing veggies and lots of May-ters
