Rare early 1920s American-made Conservatory (William Lange) Tenor Banjo. All original (including the hardshell case) except for bridge and clear head. In Very Good Condition (VGC) all around. Beautiful wood inlays on the back of the resonator. 19 fret rosewood fretboard (15-1/4”), ornate abalone inlays in great shape, original geared tuners, chrome plated brass tailpiece, 3-piece walnut-ebony-walnut neck, 1-1/8" bone top nut, walnut back resonator, shell 2-1/2" deep x 7/16" thick, maple/walnut inlay trim on resonator. Widely appreciated are the new technologies it introduced, such as the Continually Adjustable Neck (which allows immediate adjustment of string action – from high slide to delicate fingerstyle - and totally eliminates the need for future costly neck adjustments); the Lateral Compression Soundboard (which spreads the string tension strategically over the top to maximize tone and volume); and the Torque Reducing Split Bridge (which changes the ‘pull’ of the strings on the top from upward to downward, also maximizing tone and volume while significantly reducing tension wear and tear on the guitar itself). This is a very rare Martin, 1 of only 17 made between 1937 and 1955. The 000-28G has Brazilian rosewood back and sides, spruce top, fan bracing, loop bridge, 12 frets to body, 25.5? scale, 1.75? nut width. Interior label dated June 1947 and signed by C. F. Martin III. Label says “specially made for Clark Russell June 1947”. Other labels inside trace some of the instrument’s history with owners names (sold again in Toronto in October 1947, then again in Baltimore in Dec. 1950). Two professionally repaired top cracks. The Gibson J-45 went through a myriad of changes especially from the 1950s-1970s. 1962 was the first year of the cherry finish and early for the adjustable (plastic!!) bridge and saddle; maybe not Gibson’s finest improvement, but if it ain’t broke… This guitar is all original with no repairs, cracks, or modifications; the nut is 1 11/16? and the neck is a comfortable C shape with just the right amount of meat to it. Killer Gibson sound!

There is a pickup installed with a jack underneath the back strap button. It comes with the handmade coffin case. The pickguard is cracked by the treble strings. 2006 Lebron Batey, Guarneri Copy Fiddle. This is an exceptional fiddle from atop Sand Mountain, Alabama. 100 - 150 year old, air dried maple was used in this third of a series of five special fiddles. The result is a professional level instrument with tremendous volume and projection. It has a clear, sweet and deep tone. The fiddle is in near-mint condition. The lable reads: Lebron Beaty Copy of Guarneri No. 57 9-2006 Made in Sylvania, Alabama. Instrument Specifications: * 100 - 150 year old, air dried, curly maple, one piece back, sides and neck. * Tight grain, Ingleman spruce top. * Ebony fingerboard, tailpiece, chin rest and button. * Fine tuners on all four strings. * Set-up with "fiddle bridge" and "modest" strings (manufacturer unknown to me). Extras: * Two used bows in good working order. * A used, yet very serviceable, Core case. The builder was interviewed by the Rome News-Tribune (Georgia) during the building of this instrument. The LG-2 became the B-25 in 1962. This is one of the last with a 1&11/16" nut width, before they started getting narrower. Adjustable saddle removed, slot filled perfectly with a piece of rosewood, and a new slot routed for a normal saddle. That made a huge improvement in tone and volume. Fretless 5-string conversion. Started out as a new Gretsch 1883 openback. I removed the frets and filled the grooves with epoxy. Then I scooped the lower fretboard. Then I upgraded the tuning heads to closed heads with matching geared 5th string tuner. Then added a raised 5th string clawhammer style bridge for good measure. Ships in a sturdy and protective Road Runner backpack style soft case. This banjo plays really nicely. I have since moved on to a custom model.
